What is dye sublimation ink?
Dye sublimation ink is a specialised ink used to print images onto
sublimation transfer paper. The printed image is then transferred onto
a suitable polyester garment or sublimation-coated product using heat
and pressure.
During the heat-transfer process, the sublimation dyes convert from a
solid to a gas and bond with the polyester or polymer coating of the
substrate. As the material cools, the dye becomes fixed within the
surface, producing a durable printed image.
Sublimation printing is commonly used for polyester garments, mugs,
drinkware, promotional products, signs, plaques and other products
specifically manufactured or coated for sublimation.
The image printed onto sublimation paper may initially appear dull or
muted. This is normal. The colours develop and become more vibrant
during the heat-transfer process.
